Default Loom Trilogy

Are you aware that originally Loom was planned as a trilogy. The followup titles were to be called Forge and The Fold. Of course, Loom did not sell well and LucasArts dropped that idea quickly.

Was this mentioned f.ex. in Adventurer or where?

Is there any concept art or any more info about these?
Even about the plots?

I don't think LucasArts ever published any information about it but some ex-employees have mentioned it. I haven't seen any concept art either.

My goodness. That would be amazing.

Has anyone considered a fan-sequel? I know there's been plenty done on Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken...but we need someone to make a Loom sequel!

There was a fan project called "Loom 2: Chaos Returns". It is now called "The Years of Chaos", but does not have a website any longer. That is because it currently has no artists.

I will post a thread where you can contact the project leader in case you want to help with the artwork.

Mike Stemmle and Sean Clark were doing preproduction work on Forge but then stopped when they got the opportunity to make Sam & Max Hit the Road instead.

Hi there !

I just want to correct a few things.

First of all, Forge and The Fold were not dropped because Loom did not sell well ( it sold about a half million copies, which is not that bad), but because nobody wanted to do it. Moriarty himself had no time, because he had to work on something else, and nobody else wanted to do the project (remember that were the times were Lucasfilm Games was a small and successfull company, so what .

Best regards,

Nico Blanke

I imagine Moriarty was working on one of the early versions of The Dig?

He stopped working in LucasArts to join to Rocket Science about 1992 so The Dig was delayed too. The only difference is that The Dig was finished years later unlike LOOM. Maybe because the idea for the game came from Spielberg's side?

Default Information by Moriarty

Hi there!

Since the last company I knew were Moriarty worked was Skotos Tech ( http://www.skotos.net ) I came in Contact with him, he wrote me a pretty long email, here's a part of it, about Loom and the both Sequels :

----------------------
Thank you for contacting me. It's kind of you to remember
LOOM after so many years.

LOOM was conceived as the first game of a fantasy trilogy.
The second game, FORGE, would follow the adventures of
Rusty Nailbender as he tried to regain control of the Forge,
which was hijacked by Chaos in the first game. Bobbin was
going to appear every now and then (as a swan) to offer help
and advice, kind of like Obi-Wan Kenobi in EMPIRE and JEDI.
At the end of FORGE, Rusty drives Chaos out of the Forge, but
not before the gentle land of the Shepherds is conquered and
nearly destroyed in a terrible battle. (The floating Forge
ends up falling directly onto the Shepherds'
pastures.)

The third game, THE FOLD, followed the adventures of
Fleece Firmflanks, who teams up with Rusty to resist the evil
forces that are camping in the Shepherds' territory. Bobbin
again offers occasional help and advice. At the climax of the
game, Bobbin, Bobbin's mother and Hetchel return to Earth along
with the entire Guild of Weavers, and all of the other Guilds
join for a final challenge to Chaos. Working
together for the first time, their combined magic banishes
Chaos back into the Void, and the healing of the world can begin.
Rusty and Fleece get married, and Bobbin becomes the head of the
Guild of Weavers.

Contrary to popular belief, the LOOM sequels were not abandoned
because LOOM didn't sell well. LOOM has sold more than half a
million copies in various formats since it was published in 1990.
The reason the sequels weren't made is because I decided I wanted
to work on other things, and nobody else wanted to do them, either.

Good luck with your sequel, and let me know if you need any help!

- Brian Moriarty

Spellbreaker.
