Atlasobscura article even mentions Fate of Atlantis :) I wonder why Barwood and Falstein didn`t use Sicily at all, because Plato had strong connections to Sicily. He made three voyages to Sicily and Sicilian Greek polis of Syracuse was clearly some kind of inspiration to his Atlantis myth. Even his legendary lost dialogue was named after Syracusan statesman Hermocrates who defeated Athens invasion army and navy in Peloponnesian War (415 - 413 BC).

I would have used Syracuse catacombs as a gateway to Atlantis
